How is Biomass Produced Making it a Renewable Energy Source

It has been said a lot of times that biomass is a renewable source of energy. Meaning, the materials needed to produce alternative power can be replaced or recreated easily. Biomass is the opposite of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels like coal and oil can not possibly be regenerated by men because it takes the geological processes of nature. Biomass on the other hand, can be collected easily so that it may be used in producing energy. We know that biomass is made up of organic and biological materials. Yet, there is still one important question. That is, how is biomass produced?

Studying what is biomass made of will make its production clearer. Biomass production is dependent on organic materials. This includes agricultural wastes like corn, sugarcane, stalks, or nutshell. Even the manure from farm animals like cattle, poultry and hogs can be collected and used as biomass. The wastes from the lumber industry are also collected as biomass material. The stump, branches, dead trees and other forest waste are efficient biomatter. Even municipal waste like paper packaging and garbage from yard clippings are considered biomass. Now, when these different resources are collected, it is then considered as biomass materials. It goes through a process of conversion so that biofuel can be produced.

Biomass production occurs in various methods. That also results to the varied types of biomass. The environmental conditions and location result to differences in the composition of various biomass materials.

"Terrestrial biomass is one type of biomatter". This is derived from grasses, tress and shrubs. Another type is ocean biomass. Ocean biomass refers to the phytoplanktons and even algae. The last one is global biomass. This is the one that we are most familiar with because it consists o materials found on land.

For decades, biomass has been an efficient source of alternative energy.

How is biomass made of energy? How can it produce sustainable power?

The components in biomass make it an efficient energy source. There is an abundance of carbon in biomass materials. The biomass cycle actually contributes a lot in saving the environment. When too much carbon is released in the atmosphere, this can contribute to the worsening global warming. Using biomass for energy production significantly reduces the amount of carbon being released to the environment.

To be able to use biomass as an efficient source of energy, it has to be processed and converted. Today, the most common and most practical way to convert biomass is through biomass pellet production.

Biomass pellet production resolved the problem of handling, storing and transporting biomass. Is a process wherein biomass materials are broken down to smaller pieces and then placed inside a biomass pelletizer. This machine further breaks down biomatter. The most important thing that happens is that moisture in biomass materials are drawn out so that it becomes more efficient for combustion. Once the entire process is done, biomass pellets are created. This is a form of biofuel that effectively produces thermal energy. It can be used for pellet stoves for cooking or even for heating up boilers.
